Why is my wireless laptop signal strenght so weak, even next to the router? - wireless router for laptop

I have a Dell laptop and a Linksys wireless router, which worked well for months, suddenly, I only have one bar of signal strength, even with the laptop next to the router. I connect again and again several times? Possible that the router is bad, two years after IS? Is there a way to check?
